The hostel only accepts 'sole occupancy' bookings during the winter months. The rest of the time, in theory, you can just roll up - although I expect booking would be more than advisable!
On one of my backpacking trips I was not allowed to even put up my tent in their grounds even though it was a hostel that offered that facility. The reason: they had a party of school children staying int the hostel. Other YHAs have gone so upmarket they have priced themselves beyond many B and Bs whilst offering fewer facilities.
The YHA has lost it's way. What was once a wonderful organisation, a charity in fact, now just seems focused on making money whilst ignoring the folk it was set up to benefit.
Did you have to book?

DeleteLooks good John
ReplyDeleteThanks Dawn, it certainly was!
DeleteALanR. I really do find sole occupancy annoying.
ReplyDeleteI agree! It's worse when they have a school party in nowadays, they may only half-fill the hostel but they won't allow anyone else in.
